Dunno my man, other than you there is myself that uses Linux, but you're way more guru than I am. Not sure anyone else here does, but there are so few on the new forums for now, and I'm just a basic user compared to you.
What the ever happened to Linuxguru anyway. He was cool, then just disappeared.
Oh wait, there is Shakka too. Forgot boot him...

Sorry Auto. You're more a pro at this stuff than I am. My Linux know-how is only in relationship to programming, not in hardware configuration/setup.

But, with your programming know-how, wouldnt you technically be able to make the firmware?

But, with your programming know-how, wouldnt you technically be able to make the firmware? That's not a small undertaking considering I'm not familiar with the software nor do I have a test environment to work from. Other factors as well (like reverse engineering).

You want to make cereal cash? Familiarize yourself with Linux. Thats the difference between your standard desk job salary and a 6 figure salary.

Then why aren't you doing it? lol I need to learn somethings to start making some extra money online or along those lines. I can't keep living like this for another 3-4 freaking years. I dunno.

No. Much more cash with other OS focus on average. But, I get what you're trying to say. But, I left my six figure job to get away from that. It was ruining me.

Linux is where its at now. Windows is dying. Gaming is making its move to Linux. If you can set up and maintain a Linux server, RHEL workstations, and write games for Nix, you will be as rich as Our Lord GabeN

Should have done that myself, but no, I decides to get into an industry that will make me worse off in the long run, which I knew, but only had so little left to pay off the mortgage, I kept going. But hindsite is 20/20.

Speaking of, been awhile since I spoke to that crazy f-r. I'll email him.

Gaming isn't even close to worth it. Linux as an OS isn't that hard to figure out. It just requires a little work if you want things to work exactly one way or another. Which is something you usually don't have on Windows because it works this way and that's all. And AuTo: as far as developing software for Linux, I'm already covered on that though there's a slight learning curve on some specifics. It's still C programming for the most part (though, Python is growing for certain things and I love it). But, still, my previous statement holds true. Not as much money in that as you think. Still a very niche market unless you're developing security and specialized software for various set-ups. Any programmer worth his weight in gold will be familiar with a lot of languages and how they can be utilized on various system. At least if you do software development. I've been mostly doing Web development these days, but solely because it's much easier and straight forward and it's what people want.
