So, this is how much I am going to be saving up for my next build. Of course the GPU will be swapped out with a DX12 when they come out and things will get cheaper

Played the demo. That ish was addictive enough even then. Spent hours playing...

Any of you getting Beyond Earth? I'm definitely interested in grabbing it. Loved Civ V, although I am quite awful at the game.

That's a lot of RAM. Future-proofing. When I built my current computer 4gb of RAM was plenty, 6 years later 16gb is average, a 4x increase, so 4x16=64. Even then 64gb isn't a lot, considering I can put terabytes of RAM into a server.

Future-proofing is a concept I don't buy into. Everything I buy, I mentally plan to resell a few years down the line and replace with newer, better, more power-efficient things.
Besides, soon after you buy that, DDR4 will become the standard. Also, DirectX 12 will be supported by existing cards IIRC.

Once I get the Swift, my new SSD and the 880, I think the Pre-Sequel and Beyond Earth are probably the first two games I'll get.

If this game isn't on your radar, you're going something wrong.

Just because I don't throw it out when it no longer plays games at ultra resolution. I retire them to cozy lives as homelabs, as spares, and for parts. I usually take computers completely down when it costs more to run than it would to just get a new one.

In fact, I swap parts out often enough that I don't think I ever really just sit and buy a computer from scratch. Everyone has their own way of doing things, I guess. I find that what I do is cost-effective for me and allows me to enjoy great, recently released parts pretty often. I don't plan to move to DDR4 right away, probably within two years I will be on it though.

And eventually when it no longer has any purpose to me whatsoeve, if its dead or just so old it doesn't fit in nw parts, I throw it into a vat of hydrochloric acid and recover the gold.

I throw it into a vat of hydrochloric acid and recover the gold. I thought this was a joke, then I remembered whose post I was reading.

Yeah, I just sell them while they're still good at good value. Since I like remaining on top of technology, this works best for me. It also ensures that poor decisions aren't long-lived, and that I never really get stuck with any part, really. It's perhaps a little less cost-effective than sticking to something for like...10 years, but I don't think I'd ever be willing to do that to save money.

Huh. Maybe I'll reinstall CoP and try this out sometime. Never did finish the game.

My 6990 is 6 years old and it can play watch dogs on ultra, albiet the AMD issues caused by incompetence at ubisoft mixed with secret "nvidia exclusivity" Also, Ive never bought any of the STALKER games. I really want to play them but modding a pirated game sucks.
